SUBJECT: 2024 Santa Clara County Weights and Measures Device Registration Fees
On October 8, 2023, Governor Gavin Newson signed Assembly Bill 1304 into law. This bill adjusts device registration fees for commercial weighing and measuring devices and becomes effective on January 1, 2024. The new statewide fee structure is the first comprehensive adjustment since 2012 and reflects the true cost of the regulatory program. This authority is found in California Business and Professions Code, Section 12240.
Below are highlights of the changes:
2023 fee | 2024 Fee | |
Location Fee | $100.00 | $120.00 |
Computing Scale | $20.00 | $25.00 |
Vapor Submeter | $4.00 | $10.00 |
Water Submeter | $2.00 | $6.00 |
Unspecified device | $20.00 | $26.00 |
Maximum device registration fee | $1000.00 | $1200.00 |
Please note that each site of business is charged a location fee. Registration fees are charged per individual device. The State also applies a State Administrative Fee which remains unchanged. Counties are required by law to collect this fee and must send it to the State as it is collected.
Please remember to check the number of devices listed on your invoice and contact our office as soon as possible to make any corrections.
